Lesson
1 - Hitting things loudly gets you lots of attention very fast.
I learned this aged 3 and have never looked back. I started off with pots,
pans and pillows and graduated up to tubs, bins and younger Sisters.
Lesson 2 - Drummers are very cool.
Fast forward to age 7 and being mesmerised by Cozy Powell on Top of The
Pops playing "Dance with the Devil" wearing huge studded wristbands
and playing a double kick Ludwig in red glitter sparkle. That was it.
The crowd was going mental and clapping and cheering his every beat. That'll
do me I thought. F*ck football, f*ck cricket...f*ck everything except
getting crowds of strangers to cheer as you belted drums really hard.
And thus, a hooligan was created. Cozy, Ian, John, Stewart, Neil, Phil,
Alex, Clem and many others helped form the core of this young hooligan's
drumming style and over the years the likes of Chad, Dave and Taylor,
to name a few, have helped hone it into what you see before you.
Lesson 3 - The most fun you can have with your pants on.
Bands, bands, more bands..gigging, touring, recording, sex, drugs, rock
and roll; where did those 25 years go? And now the next chapter begins..Faux
Fighters. What a blast! I can honestly say that I've never had so much
fun playing someone else's music. Dave is a genius - pure and simple.
It's a pleasure to sit and smash my way through his and Taylor's masterworks
and hope to do them justice. They're all about committing to the tune
and playing from the heart, so I hope I'll move you in the same way because
I mean each and every kick, hit and crash.
Here's to seeing you out their on the Faux Fighters - "In Their Honour"
Tour 2007-2008. Have it all.
